Conciliation services are provided to employers
and unions in an attempt to assist the parties to reach a collective
agreement and avoid a work stoppage. The Department monitors the labour
relations situation at worksites where collective agreements are due to
expire.
Effective intervention, through the efforts of our Conciliators, resulted in a settlement rate without strike/lockout of approximately 91% in 2006-07. The intervention was significant in enabling the parties to avoid a strike/lockout.
