Quick Facts - Newfoundland and Labrador Child & Family Benefits

Quickfacts

  • The Newfoundland and Labrador Child Benefit (NLCB) helps approximately 18,500 low income families.
  • The NLCB started in July, 1999.
  • The amount received is based on family size and income.
  • Families leaving Income Support for work keep their NLCB and other Child Benefits.
  • The NLCB is combined with federal child benefits for one monthly payment.
  • You must file an income tax return each year to verify eligibility for the NLCB and Canada Child Tax Benefit (CCTB).
Other parts of the income support program, such as allowances for special needs, rent, mortgage and drug cards, remain unchanged.
